Debuting in 2015 and running for almost 10 years now, Hamilton shook Broadway by storm with its fresh approach. Based on Ron Chernow’s biographical book about Alexander Hamilton, we learn the story of Alexander Hamilton’s humble beginnings and rise to one of the Founding Fathers of Northern America. This is a profound story that is both creative and clever, Hamilton is still to this day hailed as fearless in its storytelling and has influenced politics, culture, and our youth.
It was created by American composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda who is also known for his numerous accomplishments in both Broadway and film. He went on to write the score and lyrics for previous Broadway play In the Heights, another Tony award-winning spectacle, and is also the creator of music and lyrics in several notable musical movies such as Moana. This hit musical, featuring a mixed cast, has showtunes in a style that mixes new genres like hip hop, jazz, R&B, which has made Hamilton all the more innovative and exciting by bringing these music genres to Broadway. Broadway hits such as “Satisfied”, “Wait For It”, and “You’ll Be Back”, have been considered as top-rated memorable songs from the musical since its Broadway release. Lin-Manuel Miranda has said that his music inspiration for Hamilton came from top rap and hip-hop rappers of America, he wanted to unite the different genres together, something that was unheard of! The music of Hamilton are praised heavily by Ohio critics alike, as compared to other Broadway musicals produced today, Hamilton proves to be more fast-paced and fun than others.
