Hamilton honors the life of Alexander Hamilton, conceived and composed by the multi-talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, based off the 2004 biography of Ron Chernow. It tells the historical times of Hamilton himself in a ‘hipper’ format, staying dedicated to the facts behind Hamilton's life but with and musical scoring that makes Hamilton very entertaining. The production really began off Broadway in mid 2015 and was rapidly met with epic reviews for its debut. Along with numerous press articles and reviewers, The Washington Post, called it “making ecstatic history”, as the show’s premiere with its epic cast that included the likes of the musical's creator Miranda himself in the title role and Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff, wowed audiences in its premiere with a memorable opening night. The Musical went on over the next ten years to earn eleven Tony Awards from 16 nominations, in addition to Olivier, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize Awards.
Since it began in 2015, Hamilton has since traveled to perform in numerous theaters around the world, where it has been received with continuously raving reviews. BroadwayWorld calls The Musical “the hottest ticket in town”, as it lends itself to a broad range in audience because of being accessible to both the more seasoned audiences who came for the history behind the show, and the newer generations that hears about the exciting and innovative concept behind Hamilton. In London’s West End, TimeOut mentions their worry behind Hamilton being overblown, but that “Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical about Alexander Hamilton, the first secretary of the U.S. Treasury, is actually better than the hype suggests”. Additionally, recently with a touring cast in its Manila, Philippines’ performance, PEP PH describes the Musical as a “visual and sensory feast that adds layers of depth to the narrative”; “This musical is a masterpiece not because it tells a flawless story, but because it brilliantly captures the essence of the imperfect human experience, and in doing so, it achieves perfection on the stage”, they stated.
Both critics and audiences alike agree that the Musical is a must-watch this summer as it picks up its performances all over America.
